Historic Transition at COICOM: Dr. Mynor A. Vargas Appointed Chairman of the International Board

San Pedro Sula, Honduras – Within the framework of the Thirty-third International COICOM Encounter, held September 8–10 at the Copantl Hotel and Convention Center, a major leadership transition was announced, regarded as highly significant for the Christian communications community of Ibero-America.

On September 11, during an extraordinary session held under parliamentary quorum and duly recorded in the official minutes, Guatemalan minister Dr. Mynor A. Vargas, a founding member of COICOM, was formally appointed Chairman of the International Board of COICOM, a role he will serve until the end of the term in February 2026. The announcement was made by Executive President Dr. Arnold Enns and validated in the record by Secretary General Lic. Napoleón Ardaya.

The decision came as veteran News Anchor and cofounder Stan Jeter, after more than three decades of service and leadership, tendered his resignation due to health reasons and advanced age, now over 80 years.

With more than three decades of active service within COICOM and in the training of communicators across more than twenty nations, Dr. Vargas assumes this role with the commitment to guide the organization into a new stage of consolidation, expansion, and global projection.

Exclusive Interview with CCN

Journalist: Dr. Vargas, how did you receive the news of your appointment?
Dr. Vargas: It was an unexpected and deeply moving moment. I never sought this appointment, although it had already been mentioned to me by Stan Jeter himself in front of the Board of Directors. On previous occasions, I told the former Chairman that, for me, he was the iconic figure of the Federation, and that his presence in that role was something monumental for both the Board and the Continent.

Journalist: Your appointment comes following the resignation of cofounder Stan Jeter. What does this mean to you?
Dr. Vargas: Stan is both a brother and a mentor. His legacy is immense, and his decision reflects the wisdom of recognizing the right time. I thank God and him for opening this path of orderly transition. My vision is that, together with the Board of Directors, we will strengthen unity, training, and influence so that COICOM’s impact can be felt in every nation of Ibero-America.

Journalist: What will be the priority for COICOM Joven in this new stage?
Dr. Vargas: COICOM Joven is the seedbed of the future. We want to invest in new generations of communicators, equipping them with digital tools, spiritual formation, and responsible leadership—so that they not only transmit content, but also impact entire cultures with the Gospel. Our President and CEO, Dr. Arnold Enns, along with the Board, have appointed Johannes Bleeker as director of the project, tasked with advancing this youth vision.

Journalist: What role will COICOM USA play in strengthening the continental vision?
Dr. Vargas: COICOM USA is key because it connects the strength and resources of the North with the missionary passion of the South. My desire is for this strategic initiative to strengthen training, financing, and media coverage projects for Ibero-America and beyond. COICOM USA is vital, since many Latinos cannot leave the U.S.; for them we will bring at least one or more of these congresses each year. May God help us fulfill this purpose.

Journalist: How do you define the concept of COICOM Legado?
Dr. Vargas: “COICOM Legado” means ensuring that what has been sown over these past three decades is not lost. It is about passing on to the next generations not only structures or programs, but values of integrity, service, and excellence that will sustain the mission for the next 30 years.
